Dr. Bert Blackwell is a South Carolina native. He completed his undergraduate studies at Duke University, and later earned his medical degree at MUSC. Dr. Blackwell then went on to a four-year Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he was accepted into the Anesthesiology department and completed an additional one-year fellowship in Pain Medicine. He is double board certified in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine.
Dr. Blackwell focuses on treating each patient as an individual, and restoring quality of life through improving function and relieving pain. He has special, clinical interests in spinal cord stimulation and cancer pain management. He has published and illustrated a number of articles in the field of pain management.
In his spare time, Dr. Blackwell has a number of interests. He has (almost) fully restored his 1967 Bonneville convertible. Vinyl records are his favorite source of music, and he insists they sound their best when listened to through a vacuum tube amplifier (he’s restored a few of these as well). Dr. Blackwell is definitely a true foodie, both enjoying the (exceptional) local Charleston food scene, and cooking frequently at home.
